Privacy Policy — ownintel.com
Last updated: 12-Sep-2026

The short version. We run a private AI assistant. No ads, no third-party trackers, no data sales, and your content is never used to train models. We collect what you give us to sign up and to use the service, plus basic connection logs. You can review, delete, and permanently wipe your data at any time.

1. What we collect

  • Account info: Your email address and password to create and secure your account. The service is currently offered as a free trial; we do not collect payment information.
  • What you send to the assistant: messages, documents, notes, and prompts. We process this only to provide the service. We do not sync your device, scrape your accounts, or infer attributes about you.
  • Connection info: your IP address, timestamp — as any website does. Retained for up to 14 days for security and abuse response, then deleted. If you use a VPN, we see your VPN's address instead.

2. What we do not collect
No advertising identifiers, no third-party cookies or analytics scripts, no device fingerprinting, and no access to your device or files beyond what you explicitly submit.

3. How we use it
To provide the assistant (chat, search, document retrieval, memory) and to operate and secure the infrastructure (authentication, abuse prevention, incident response). We do not use your content to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any model — there is no such step in the pipeline, now or in future model upgrades. We do not use your content for advertising, marketing, or profiling.

4. What leaves our network
When the assistant performs a web search, the query exits from our own search instance through a VPN: search providers see the query text but not your IP address or identity. If you put personal information in a query, assume the search provider handling it receives it. We only route searches through privacy-focused search backends. Nothing else leaves. Your documents, conversations, and memory are processed on our own hardware and are never sent to a third-party model API or vendor for indexing.

5. Where your data is stored

  • AI service data (conversations, documents, memory): on our own hardware in the United States (Florida), in an encrypted database (encryption at rest).
  • The public front door for the service, and this website, are hosted on a virtual private server operated by a third-party hosting provider. They do not have access to any data used in this service, they only see what IP's connect to the service.
  • The domain is registered through a third-party registrar (Namecheap); the registrar handles domain registration and DNS only and does not host or see your data.
  • The honest limit: we operate the software, so we hold the keys. Encryption protects your data from everyone else; deletion is the only step that removes even our ability to reach it.

6. No retention, no recovery copies
We have no data retention practice. Your content is stored in the service only for as long as it is needed to provide the service to you (this is storage, not retention). We make no backups, snapshots, replicas, off-site copies, disaster-recovery copies, or archives of your data — in no event, including catastrophic hardware or infrastructure failure. Your data exists in a single location.

Because we keep no secondary copy, we make no warranty of durability, availability, or recovery: if that single store is destroyed, the data is lost and there is nothing to restore it from. We do not retain your data anywhere after you delete it, and deletion removes it from that single location permanently.

In short: your data lives only while your account holds it, in one place, with no retention copies and no recovery guarantee. If you need a durable copy of anything you submit, keep your own

7. Deletion
You can delete any conversation, document, or note, or your entire account, at any time. Deletion removes the item including the search indexes and embeddings built from it. We keep no recoverable copies. Deletion is final. [Export: not currently available; self-serve export is on the roadmap.]

8. Your rights
Your content is yours: you can read and edit it in your account, and delete it per §7. For any other request (access, correction, portability), email Jacob@ownintel.com; we respond within 30 days and do not discriminate against you for exercising rights.

  • California residents: we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA.
  • EU/UK users: the GDPR may apply to your data. You have rights including access, rectification, erasure, and objection, and the right to complain to your supervisory authority. Exercise any of them via the contact below.

9. Security and incidents
Data in transit is protected by modern, widely-audited encryption (TLS at the front door, encrypted tunnel behind it); data at rest is encrypted. No system is perfectly secure. If we discover an incident affecting your data, we will notify affected users by email with a plain-language description and what we did.

10. Age requirement
You must be at least 18 to use OwnIntel. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If a minor has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

11. Changes & contact
Material changes to this policy are posted here and, where we can contact you, emailed to account holders. The date at the top of this policy reflects the latest revision.

Free trial — no SLA. The service is currently offered as a free trial. Trial accounts are provided "as is", with no service level agreement, no uptime guarantee, and no guarantee of performance, availability, or continuity. We may pause, modify, or discontinue the trial service at any time without advance notice, and we owe no compensation for downtime, interruption, or data loss. This is in addition to the durability and recovery limitations described in §6.
